My hosts were kind, generous, and indulgent; letting me pick a spot where I could (mostly) just play the whole time, with a few interruptions for function stuff and a couple of other performances. I got lots of great compliments, and some decent tips, especially from a merchant who ran across the square to tell me that I had just played their "favourite song of all time" that had been on a mix tape gifted to them as a child from their Mom. What makes that moment stand out the most is how I pick songs to play. In my mind I like to picture a "heads up display" that shows several columns of songs to "Play Next or Soon": One column is labelled "Songs In Or Close To This Capo/Harmonica/ Pick or Finger Pick Position" Basically songs I could play next with minimum transitions. One column is loaded up with songs for the current occasion/vibe/theme/etc One column is "Songs I Really Want (or Hope) To Play (today)" One column is labelled "Good Response(s) to (song(s)), So Might Like (These) One Column is reserved for Requests (of course) And the final column just sometimes shows seemingly random songs with a blinking light saying "Play THIS Now". When I can, I find songs that fit several of these criteria simultaneously. "House At Pooh Corner" was partially from the "minimal transition" column at that moment, but MOSTLY is was from the spontaneous "Play THIS now" column. I've learned over many years, that it's a Good Idea(tm) to heed this prompt. And... that was the song that had that vendor running over and gushing to me. Bardic Intuition for the win! A couple of other Magick Moments came from the Historic Railroad Station that had the lovely steam engine that was one of the site's neighbours. That train picked some truly excellent moments to "WOOOOOOT!" at me, and yes, people noticed. Very Cool! The final moment was when I finished the day cheekily playing "Closing Time" and the nearby church with a very nice bell tower started clanging away at THE MOMENT of my very last notes. I ended my adventure feasting mightily on a handful of hotdogs that a food vendor was letting go for $1 each as an "end of day special". It was a good day!!
